My Treatment Modality

My philosophy for prescribing medication incorporates evidence-based science and wellness, i.e., the connection of mind, body, and spirit. I assess what influences your unique concept of self, your strengths, vulnerabilities and outlook on life. I provide specialized care by staying connected with you through the process of finding the right medication, looking at your exercise and diet habits and beginning your journey to ease symptoms and help restore balance

Credentials and Experience

I graduated Vanderbilt University in 2003 with a Master’s of Science as a nurse practitioner. Since 2003 I have practiced psychiatry and recovery medicine in a variety of settings including: outpatient psychiatric clinics, hospital inpatient psychiatry units, inpatient detox units, emergency department psychiatry, psychiatric urgent care, private rehab, sexual offenders’ program, psychosocial day treatment program and ACTT.

Areas of Expertise

I diagnose and treat mental health and substance use disorders like:

  • · Mood disorders – depression, bipolar disorder
  • · Anxiety disorders
  • · Trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder
  • · Obsessive compulsive disorder
  • · Intermittent explosive disorder
  • · Eating disorders
  • · Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder
  • · Recovery related to substance disorders
  • · Alcohol use disorder
  • · Buprenorphine treatment for opioid use disorder

About me

I was born and raised in Connecticut, then moved to Nashville, Tennessee, for ten years where I completed college and pursued a music career as performers and songwriters with my future wife. Fortunately, we both fell in love with Asheville after “discovering” it on one of our many trips to the Blue Ridge Mountains and then moved here in 2003.

Connections to nature, animals, art, and music have been important to me my whole life as they are integral to my soul and sense of being. I believe our relationships with others and how we treat ourselves defines us, whether in a professional capacity, with strangers or with loved ones. I am married to a beautiful, smart, talented, and loving woman and together we share a band, Deep River, two rescued dogs and two rescued cats
