The human experience is complex and messy. Life can hold joy and wonder, while it simultaneously holds pain and suffering. Being a person in this world is not easy by any means.
In a world that can feel lonely and isolating much of the time, it can be difficult to know where to turn. Trying to understand who we are and how to proceed. How to make meaning of our lives. How to live in a way that feels authentic to who we are. Especially at a time when so much feels scary, unpredictable, and overwhelming.
In my role as a therapist, I view myself not as an expert that has all the answers, but as a fellow human who can relate to feeling overwhelmed, helpless, and hopeless at times. Who understands on a deep level how it feels to long for understanding, connection, and meaning in life.
I offer a warm, understanding, and nonjudgmental space where you can be fully yourself- no matter what that looks like in the moment. I value authenticity, curiosity, and humor. While I tailor my therapeutic approach to meet the specific needs of my clients, my overall aim is to support clients in better understanding themselves and learning how to live a life that aligns with their values. I prioritize the therapeutic relationship and strive to co-create a container with my clients that allows them to feel valued, seen, and supported as we explore the complicated, messy, confusing, and beautiful parts of existence.
My therapeutic approach is grounded in a Person-Centered orientation and additionally informed by Attachment Theory, Polyvagal Theory, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Internal Family Systems/ Parts Work, and Emotionally-Focused Therapy.
I am a Type-1 Diabetic, white, queer, AFAB non-binary person who was born and raised in North Carolina. I have lived experience navigating the complexities of mental health struggles and chronic physical illnesses. I was incredibly fortunate to work with a wonderful therapist throughout my youth, who provided a safe space for me to process many life challenges. That experience was a significant part of what inspired my own desire to become a therapist- with the hopes of offering similarly supportive and meaningful experiences to others.
I have always had a curious nature and an existential mind. Likewise, I have always enjoyed connecting with others and have a long-standing appreciation for how uniquely different every individual is. And also find comfort in how similar we can be. I love animals, plants, and nature. I find joy in creating art, spending time with friends & loved ones, playing games, silliness, the ocean, movement/dancing, listening to music, making & eating yummy food, and snuggling my cat and dog. I look forward to connecting with you!
