Growing up and learning how to navigate the world is tough. Trying to navigate this world while struggling with intrusive thoughts, not feeling connected, feeling like no one understands is tougher. As a child, adolescent, and family therapist, I believe in using an empowering and holistic approach that focuses on nurturing a child and family’s inherent strengths and capabilities. Each child and individual possesses unique qualities, resources, and potential for growth. By shifting the therapeutic lens from problems to strengths, it aims to foster resilience, self-awareness, and overall well-being in children and teens.
My clinical philosophy also emphasizes the importance of the present moment, encouraging children to connect with their thoughts, emotions, and sensations in the here and now. Through experiential exercises, such as role-playing, creative arts, and mindfulness techniques, children are encouraged to explore their strengths and develop new coping strategies. They learn to recognize and utilize their strengths as tools to navigate challenges and achieve personal growth.
I love working with kiddos and adolescents because therapy at a young age can be a blueprint during a crucial point in their development allowing them to learn how to navigate and overcome difficulties now and in the future.
I am a passionate advocate for people of color and the queer community. There was never any doubt that I would become anything other than a therapist. It is my goal as a therapist to create a safe and non-judgmental space for clients to explore their challenges, strengths, and aspirations.
Beyond my professional role, I proudly embrace my identity as a black queer woman. Drawing from my own personal experiences, I bring a deep understanding and empathy for the diverse struggles and triumphs faced by the LGBTQ+ community and people of color. I am committed to providing inclusive and affirming therapy that honors and celebrates each individual's unique identity and journey. I received my master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Arkansas (Woo Pig!). I traded tornados for bears and moved to North Carolina for the landscape and weather. Outside of the office, I love reading, going on long walks with my pups, getting brief love from my black cats, and getting way too competitive about board games with my wife.
I use various modalities including Play Therapy, Gestalt, Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Collaborative Problem Solving, Expressive Arts, and Mindfulness. I specialize in and am passionate about working with children, adolescents, families, and the LGBTQAI+ community
